Isolation Sequence - Hoop Dance Tutorial | Free Hula Hoop Tutorials

I am excited to try these!  My hoop weighs in at 2 pounds so I'm not sure how steady I will be able to keep the darned thing when I first attempt these.  But talk about a great arm work out! Phew!

Hoop Dance Tutorials for beginners & Beyond (playlist)

With only a week and a half left for this month's challenge I really like Deanne Love's tutorials; so this week I shall be posting some more of her videos.  I think I should really start to rev up my practice a bit!

Week 3 Check in

Boy the time flies when your having fun!  Even with my suddenly very busy summer schedule I am still managing to get in my half an hours worth of hula hooping; but since I am one of those people who refuses to turn on the air conditioning till I just cannot stand the heat any more -I end my sessions dripping in sweat.  So far I've only missed one day due to a brief summer cold, but even on that day I did make an attempt but I don't think I even lasted 10 minutes.  As for my success at getting the hoop going, I tend to have the rhythm down when I first start and can hold it for almost a full minute but then if I get it to stay for more then 20 seconds I think it's a fluke.

I think I need to look up and watch some more lessons.

I will post some more inspirational videos if and when I find them.

Inspiration: Hula Hoop Dancer - Prachi Garud

Not that I ever expect to get even close to this talented with the hoop, some beautiful inspiration is always nice. Clearly hooping can be turned into an art form!

2 for 1 check-in

Week one, or at least the first five days, is done.  I finally found a decent hula hoop.  The right size, a decent weight, and the best part it ACTUALLY Works!  My first day with the new hoop was so completely different; the hoop moved with ease and I managed to keep it up for at least four rotations before it hit the ground.  The bad news about this week? I worked a 16 hour shift yesterday and was so tired by the time I got home at 11:30pm I barely managed to crawl into bed -so no hooping yesterday.

Called the Cardio Fitness Hoop -it comes disassembled, is nicely padded, and has a decent pictorial stretching "fitness" routine.  The hoop can be put together and taken a part with relative ease -bonus for storage for later.

2 weeks ago I started juicing on a daily basis to try and reset my health.  I have to say that there have been some surprises with the juices.  Certain combinations of green juices are just too much for me, while I was pleasantly surprised by the sweetness of one called the Pancreas Rejuvenator.

Pancreas Rejuvenator
4 carrots
1 apple
4-5 lettuce leaves (I used romaine)
3 ounces string beans
3 ounces Brussels sprouts

As for my health, I followed the request of my healthcare provider and restarted taking my vitamin D, added in some Melatonin to help with the sleep and an allergy med to help with the bloody noses.  I spent a week on the melatonin before I stopped taking it -as it seemed to make the sleeping issues worse- once I stopped it I have, for the most part, had the best nights sleep for this past week, I still wake up between 1 and 3 in the morning, but I have been able to get back to sleep relatively easy.  For the most part I feel as things have been brought back to normal, I'm still having the bloody noses so at some point I may have to see an ENT specialist.

The Right Size Hoop!

Well!  Yesterday's attempt was a disaster and clearly with this video I have quickly found out why.  Issue number 1? The hoop as I stated in yesterday's post ... belongs to my son so it is WAY TOO small for me.  Clearly I will need to hunt down the right size hoop for me.  Now to figure out where I can get a decent hoop that doesn't cost too much because, naturally there's no telling if I will continue to hoop after July's challenge, though if I can really get even a little bit down I just might.

July's Challenge -Hula Hooping!

I have always wanted to be able to Hula Hoop.  No matter how I tried as a child or even as an adult I have never been successful at accomplishing this seemingly simple task.

Why this as a challenge?
Well the point of these challenges is to try new things, and experience new adventures; that and I came across my son's hoop when I was cleaning up the basement playroom and since I really could not think of any other challenge for the month, I figured why not!  30 minutes a day for 30 days, maybe, just maybe I might learn how to finally hula a hoop.  To help with this I have been searching YouTube for how to videos (since YouTube is ripe with how to [insert your curiosity here] videos).

Wish me luck Fellow Challengers!
